May 14, Saturday, 1pm at Boutwell House: Harrie Slootbeek will talk about local inventor Loammi Baldwin, Jr. who engineered Groton’s first fire pump, The Torrent. Baldwin later designed the drydocks at the Charlestown Navy Yards. Also, a fire truck from the GFD will be in front of the House from 10am – noon. Inside is a new exhibit of firefighting related artifacts including fire buckets and fire marks. Harrie is collections and exhibits manager at the USS Constitution Museum. The House will be open until 3pm.  This program is part of Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area’s Hidden Treasures week. To see all participating programs click here.
