In February, the GHS proudly announced the publication of it's newest book: Groton. Published by Arcadia, this Images of America series book, features over 200 old photographs, many of which had never before been published.

Thanks to a long-standing pattern of residents concerned with preserving and promoting the history of the town, Groton retains many period houses, countless primary source documents, and other annals of the past. Groton includes over 200 photographs illustrating life in Groton from the mid 19th century to the early 20th century. Most of the images are taken from photographs, glass slidesm and postcards from the GHS Collection.

Highlights of Groton:
Features the ordinary and extraordinary people, places, and events that molded the town

  • Showcases the quality of education in Groton through Groton Academy (now Lawrence Academy), the Lowthorpe School of Landscape Architecture and the Groton School

  • Immortalizes buildings in Groton that have been lost to fires, demolition or changing boundary lines
