August 1802 entries from a weather journal that Caleb Butler recorded the year he moved to Groton.

Caleb Butler was born in 1776 in Pelham, NH and moved to Groton in 1802 to teach at Groton Academy (now Lawrence Academy). Butler served as Selectman in town and was Town Clerk for two different terms (1815-1817 & 1823-1831). He continued to be active in town affairs and served as Postmaster in Groton from 1826-1839. Butler also studied engineering and became a surveyor in town-his map based on an 1828/29 survey is the first map of Groton to show houses and family names. In 1848 his "History of the Town of Groton" was published. Butler died in 1854 and is buried in the Groton Cemetery.

The Groton Historical Society has a number of Butler's weather journals in its Collection dating from 1802-1854.
